Next 'Jason Bourne' Film Won't Actually Be About Jason Bourne

Though Matt Damon and Supremacy/Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass are absent, Damon has previously stated that as long as Bourne: Legacy leaves the door open for his character to come back, he would be eager to return once again with Greengrass at the helm. However, if the A-list casting is any indication, director Tony Gilroy is looking to start a franchise of his own with Legacy.

And Tony Gilroy is looking for a villain in Edward Norton. Gilroy wrote the script for the film, which will take place in the same universe as the first three Bourne Identity flicks and though the character of Jason Bourne will be absent (which pretty much renders the “Bourne” in the title moot, save for franchise recognition), Jeremy Renner is taking over as the main protagonist.

I can guarantee you a frantic shooting schedule with release date set at August 3rd, 2012. Good luck, Renner. You're one of the few Americans playing an American action character. You better bring it.
